Telling the time is an essential skill in daily communication. In English, there are two common ways to express the time. The first is the digital format, where you simply say the numbers as they appear, such as eight-thirty for 08.30. The second way uses 'past' and 'to'. For example, if the minute hand is on the right side of the clock (minutes 1-30), we use 'past', like 'half past eight'. If it's on the left side (minutes 31-59), we use 'to' for the next hour, such as 'twenty to seven'. Additionally, we use 'quarter' for 15 minutes and 'o'clock' when there are no minutes to indicate a full hour.
