File info: Energy is the ability to do work. It is all around us, in many different forms. Some common forms of energy include:Kinetic energy:Energy of motion. Examples include a moving car, a rolling ball, and the wind.Potential energy:Stored energy. Examples include a stretched spring, a raised object, and a battery.Heat energy:Energy of temperature. Examples include a hot stove, a warm fire, and the sun.Sound energy:Energy of vibrations. Examples include a talking person, a musical instrument, and a car horn. Light energy:Energy of electromagnetic waves. Examples include the sun, a light bulb, and a firefly. Energy can be converted from one form to another. For example, when you turn on a light, the electrical energy from the outlet is converted into light energy. Questions:What is energy? What are the different forms of energy? Give an example of each form of energy. What is the difference between kinetic energy and potential energy? Give an example of how energy can be converted from one form to another. Answers:Energy is the ability to do work. The different forms of energy include kinetic energy, potential energy, heat energy, sound energy, and light energy. Examples of each form of energy include: Kinetic energy: a moving car, a rolling ball, and the wind Potential energy: a stretched spring, a raised object, and a battery Heat energy: a hot stove, a warm fire, and the sun Sound energy: a talking person, a musical instrument, and a car horn Light energy: the sun, a light bulb, and a firefly Kinetic energy is the energy of motion, while potential energy is stored energy. Examples of how energy can be converted from one form to another include: Electrical energy from an outlet is converted into light energy by a light bulb. Chemical energy in food is converted into heat energy when we eat. Solar energy is converted into electrical energy by solar panels. Extensions:Research different sources of energy. Create a poster or presentation about energy. Write a poem or story about energy. |
