File info: Sentences in the English language can be in two main forms: active voice and passive voice. In this description, we will focus on explaining the passive voice.
The passive voice is used when the focus is on the subject receiving or being affected by the action, rather than the person or object performing the action in the active voice. In the conjunction, the subject is converted into an object by and the real subject is indicated by the word "by" in the sentence.
To form a sentence in conjunction, "be" is used as an auxiliary verb with the third conjugation of the predicate verb. The tense, persons, and number in the sentence are changed according to the context and tense required.
Using the conjunction can be helpful when:
- When we do not know the real perpetrator of the procedure or we do not care to mention it.
When the focus is on the subject receiving the action more important than the actual subject.
- when we want to change the usual order of words in a sentence.
Example:
Active voice: She wrote the book.
Passive voice: The book was written by her. |
