File info: 1. Simple Past:The past simple is used to express events and actions that happened in the past and ended completely. The simple past consists of using verbs in the past with all pronouns (I, you, he/she/it, we, they) and adding 'ed' to the end of the verb in the regular case, but there are irregular forms of the verb that need to be memorized. Example: -I watched a movie last night. (I watched a movie last night) -She cooked dinner for us. (She cooked dinner for us) 2. Past Progressive:The past continuous is used to express events and actions that occurred at a specific time in the past. The past continuous consists of using "was" or "were" with pronouns and adding the verb in the present continuous tense (in the "ing" form). Example: -They were studying when I called. (They were studying when I called) 3. Present Perfect:The present perfect is used to express events and actions that occurred in the past and have an impact or connection to the present. The present perfect tense is formed by using "have" or "has" with pronouns and adding the verb in the third past. Example: -I have visited Paris before. (I've been to Paris before) -She has already finished her homework. (She has already finished her homework) 4. Present Perfect Progressive:The present perfect continuous is used to express events and actions that began in the past and continue into the present. The present perfect continuous tense is formed by using "have been" with pronouns and adding the verb in the present continuous tense (in the "ing" form). Example: -They have been working on this project for two months. (They have been working on this project for two months) These are the four main tenses in English. Please note that there are other rules and uses of these tenses that may not be covered here in detail, so you are advised to check more sources and practice using them in sentences to enhance your understanding of these tenses. |
