File info: Comparative Adjectives is an adjective used to compare two or more things. It is used to indicate a greater or smaller difference between different objects, people, or concepts. It is usually added to attributes that have the potential to continue to be modified, such as size, speed, intelligence, beauty, and others. A comparative adjective usually consists of the base of the original adjective with the addition of “-er” at the end. For example, the adjective "tall" turns into the comparative adjective "taller". But there are also some additional grammar rules to consider, such as adding "y" before "er" if the adjective ends in a consonant and "windy", such as "happy" turning into "happier". Some common comparative adjectives that are used to compare objects include: - Big (big) - Bigger (biggest) - Small (small) - Smaller (smallest) - Fast (fast) - Faster (fastest) - Slow (Slower) - Slower (Slower) - Tall (long) - Taller (longest) - Short (short) - Shorter (shorter) - Easy (Easy) - Easier (Easiest) - Difficult - More difficult Comparative adjectives are used to help describe differences between things or people and enhance our understanding of the ratio and order between them. They can be used in everyday dialogues, written texts, articles, and other forms of language to highlight differences and contrasts between different elements. Example: -My car is faster than yours. (My car is faster than yours) -She is taller than her sister. (She is taller than her sister) -This book is more interesting than the one I read before. (This book is more interesting than the one I've read before) By using comparative adjectives, we can enhance linguistic expression and clarify the differences between different things and people in the English language. |
